Edit a NexWave Dashboard

Before you start

In NexWave, a dashboard is a Workspace: the page you land on when you click a module in the sidebar (for example Selling or Stock).

You will need:

  • The Workspace Manager role to edit public workspaces. Without it you can only edit your own private workspaces.

  • The exact name of the report, page or document type you want to link to.

To enter edit mode:

  1. Open the workspace you want to change from the sidebar.

  2. Click Edit in the top-right corner. The page switches to block mode and each section shows a small toolbar when you hover over it.

  3. To add something new, hover where you want it and click the + that appears, or use Add Block, then choose the block type.

Nothing is saved until you click Save, so it is safe to experiment and use Discard if it goes wrong.

Adding a shortcut

Shortcuts are the coloured tiles near the top of a workspace. Use them for the few things people open every day.

  1. In edit mode, click + and choose Shortcut.

  2. Set Type to one of: DocType, Report, Page, URL or Dashboard.

  3. In Link To, pick the item, for example Sales Invoice or Stock Balance.

  4. Enter a Label. This is the text people see on the tile.

  5. Optional, for DocType shortcuts:

    • Show count with Format (for example {} Open) displays a live number on the tile.

    • Stats filter limits the count, for example only Draft invoices.

    • Color sets the tile colour.

  6. Click Add, then Save on the workspace.

Tip: a DocType shortcut opens the list view. To open a new form instead, link to the list and let people click + Add.

Adding a card with links

Cards are the boxes of grouped links lower on the page, such as "Reports" or "Masters". One card can hold links to DocTypes, Reports and Pages together.

  1. In edit mode, click + and choose Card.

  2. Enter a Card Label, for example Pricing.

  3. In the Card Links table, add one row per link:

Field

What to enter

Label

Text shown on the link, e.g. Item Prices

Link Type

DocType, Report or Page

Link To

The exact item, e.g. Item Price, Stock Ledger, point-of-sale

Is Query Report

Tick for script or query reports (most standard ERPNext reports). Leave unticked for Report Builder reports

Dependencies

Optional. DocTypes that must have records before the link becomes active

Only For

Optional. Country restriction, normally left blank

  1. Click Add, then Save on the workspace.

To edit an existing card: hover over it, click the settings (gear) icon, change or add rows, then save.

Which Link Type to pick:

  • DocType opens a list of records, e.g. Customer, Item Price.

  • Report opens a saved or standard report, e.g. Accounts Receivable.

  • Page opens a system page that is neither a list nor a report, e.g. Point of Sale or a custom page.

Adding a report

A workspace can't display a full report table inline. There are three ways to put a report on it, depending on how prominent it should be.

Option

Best for

How

Shortcut tile

Reports used daily

Add a Shortcut with Type = Report (see Adding a shortcut)

Card link

Grouping several reports

Add a row to a card with Link Type = Report (see Adding a card)

Chart

Showing the report's numbers at a glance

Build a Dashboard Chart from the report, then add a Chart block

To add a report as a chart:

  1. Go to Dashboard Chart list and click + Add.

  2. Set Chart Source to Report and pick the Report Name.

  3. Set any report filters, then choose the X Field and Y Axis fields to plot.

  4. Pick the Chart Type (bar, line, pie, etc.), tick Is Public if others should see it, and save.

  5. Back on the workspace, in edit mode click +, choose Chart, select the chart you made, then Save.

Tip: if the report doesn't appear in the dropdown, check the exact name in the Report list and that the user has permission to it.

Saving, reordering and troubleshooting

Save: click Save in the top-right. Refresh the page (Ctrl+Shift+R) if changes don't show straight away.

Reorder or resize: in edit mode, drag a block by its handle to move it. Use the width option in the block toolbar to make it full, half or third width.

Remove: hover over the block and click the delete (bin) icon. This only removes it from the workspace, not the underlying report or records.

Problem

Likely cause

No Edit button

Missing Workspace Manager role, or the workspace is a standard one locked to developer mode

Link shows greyed out

A Dependencies DocType has no records yet

Link opens an error

Wrong Link Type, or Is Query Report ticked or unticked incorrectly

Others can't see changes

Edited a private copy instead of the public workspace, or users lack permission to the linked item

Changes vanished after an update

Standard workspaces can be overwritten on upgrade. Duplicate it into a custom workspace and edit that instead
